Decontis - Solutions for Analysis and Monitoring of Mobile DTV and Digital TV broadcasts

Loudness Analyzer

ATSC • DVB • ISDB – Loudness Measurement and Monitoring

SAM-LM 1000

SAMloudio – ATSC -, DVB -,  ISDB – Loudness Measurement and Monitoring according ITU-R BS.1770.3, EBU R-128 and ATSC A/85,
incl. True Peak Measurement for all sub-channels (incl. oversampling for enhanced accuracy), Loudness Range calculation etc.

Loudness Measurements

  • Integrated gated Loudness according ITU-R BS.1770.3, EBU R-128 and ATSC A/85 for monitoring e.g. CALM act compliance
  • Integrated gated Loudness over past hour
  • Integrated gated Loudness over past 6 hours
  • Integrated gated Loudness over past 24 hours

SAMloudio Analysis Tile

  • Momentary Loudness (400 ms integration time, 75% overlapping, 10 measurements per second)
  • Short Term Loudness (3 seconds integration time)
  • True Peak Level (TPL) measurement of every sub-channel
(incl. 4-times oversampling for enhanced accuracy, 10 measurements per second)
  • Loudness Range
  • Audio Freeze detection
  • Audio Silence detection
  • Live Meter (60 seconds, scalable, more than 100 live meters can be displayed on a single 4k screen)
  • Solution is CPU efficient, it can analyze/monitor the loudness of more than 100 audio streams on a recent Core i7 CPU incl. all measurements and visualizations
  • can be used along with arbitrary MPEG, AAC and AC3 audio codecs1
  • supports Digital TV and Mobile DTV
  • can be used stand-alone or integrated with atscSAM and dvbSAM

Loudness Measurement and Monitoring

Monitoring Summary Window

  • all parameters like target loudness, warning and error thresholds, loudness scales etc. are configurable individually for every audio stream
  • fully integrated into decontis SNMP tool chain for automated 24/7 SNMP based monitoring
  • for any audio stream a live playback is possible, even for several streams simultaneously, if required for any reason

1audio codecs are not included but must be installed separately

Standalone Loudness Measurement and Monitoring

In standalone mode the solution provides IP Multicast/Unicast inputs via network interface card (e.g. Ethernet). Via these interfaces it analyzes and monitors MPEG, AC-3 and AAC audio data encapsulated either as Transport Stream (TS), Packetized Elementary Stream (PES) or raw Pulse-Code Modulation (PCM) stream data in real-time.

Together with atscSAM / dvbSAM / isdbSAM

Loudness Measurement and Monitoring

Loudness Measurement and Monitoring together with atscSAM, dvbSAM or isdbSAM

In addition to the IP Multicast/Unicast interface in standalone mode, together with atscSAM or dvbSAM following additional physical audio sources get supported:

  • ATSC/ATSC-M/H (input via ATSC Terrestrial PCIe or USB RF receiver)
  • QAM (input via QAM PCIe or USB RF receiver)
  • DVB-T/DVB-T2 (input via DVB Terrestrial PCIe or USB RF receiver)
  • DVB-S/DVB-S2 (input via DVB Satellite DVB PCIe or USB RF receiver)
  • DVB-C (input via DVB Cable PCIe or USB RF receiver)
  • ISDB-T/Tb / 1seg  (input via ISDB-T PCIe or USB RF receiver)
  • ASI (input via PCIe or USB ASI input receiver)
  • recorded transport stream file

ATSC Loudness / DVB Loudness / ISDB Loudness Measurement

  • Analysis & Monitoring of Loudness for CALM act compliance or general loudness compliance according configured thresholds
  • Analysis & Monitoring of equipment for Audio Level Control (ALC) Normalization
  • Correlation between MPEG, AC3 (Dolby) and AAC (Mobile) encoded audio channels
  • Applicable for any audio type as used e.g. in DVB, ATSC, DAB…
  • typically used by broadcasters, station engineers, for QoS enforcement etc.
